DELTA Course Details
DELTA courses are intended for participants with previous teaching
experience and are designed to ensure a balance between the demands
of practical application and the latest classroom management theory.
The Oxford House DELTA course will bring your ELT skills and knowledge
to the next recognised level. The course will enable you to acquire
a deeper understanding of the principles and practice of ELT to
adults, examine current best practice and apply new techniques to
your teaching experience.
The Oxford House DELTA course focuses on the following elements:
- The background to teaching and learning English at adult level
- Using and adapting resources and materials
- Procedures and techniques for working in the classroom
- Evaluation, monitoring and assessment
- Language awareness
- Professional development
In particular, your training will cover:
- Teaching Practice: you will work in a teaching practice group
of two or three with an experienced practice supervisor. Over
the course, you will teach 10 hours, four of which are observed
internally by your supervisor and assessed externally by UCLES.
In addition, one hour is observed and assessed by the UCLES examiner.
- Observations: you will observe and be observed by your colleagues
and be encouraged to give feedback and guidance.
- Input sessions: you will work with our team of teacher trainers
to gain confidence in the latest ELT trends and theories. You
will then apply this during your own teaching and exams.
- Practical Assignment: you will undertake assignments that explore
relationships between teaching practice and fundamental classroom
principles.
- Classroom Research: you will research areas of the DELTA syllabus
and share your knowledge with other trainees.
- Mock Exam: you will be set a practice examination and explore
past exam questions throughout your training.
- Exam Technique: you will be given detailed guidance on tips
and strategies that you can use to help achieve your best examination
results.
You will be supported throughout by professionally qualified trainers
with senior ELT experience. In addition, you will also have access
to library resources including professional books, publications,
multimedia titles and Internet access. There will also be plenty
of opportunity to discuss the latest ELT theories with like-minded
colleagues from around the world.
DELTA Assessment
There are three components on which you will be assessed. These
are:
- Coursework: Includes both assessed and non-assessed work.
- Extended Assignment: This is a case study of a learner. Supervised
by Oxford House. Marked externally by UCLES.
- Written Examination: This is set and marked externally by UCLES.
