Tim Matthew, Principal
[“Practising English in the classroom is fine but there’s
no substitute for practising it in the real world! Taking a work
placement while you are studying gives you a fantastic opportunity
to not only gain valuable work experience but also to improve and
practise your language skills in real life situations. Every sentence
you speak or listen to will be meaningful and relevant to you and
this will provide you with extra motivation to learn more and practise
more. Students on work placements can expect to see their reading,
writing, listening and speaking skills improve more quickly than
if they were only studying in a classroom.”]
Nadith Kawshalya, Director of Management & Computer Studies
[“With a recognised qualification and work placement certificate
from Cambridge University at the end of your internship there is
no better way to become more attractive to prospective employers
in your chosen Industry”]
Vikas Ghavate, India - internship at Oysterware Ltd
[“I am working as a Java and Unix programmer on projects
for HMV and Comet. We play HMV radio in HMV stores across the country
through an internet based synchronization process. I have a project
coordinator who works with me in my office, as well as a project
leader who offers me guidance.
I am working full time and the company is covering all of my expenses
(i.e. accommodation, travelling, food). More importantly, the company
is fulfilling my primary expectation of valuable work experience
in an area of particular interest to me and I am also learning about
a lot of new technology. At this stage I couldn’t ask for
more.
My future plan is to become a Project Manager for Microsoft, and
this work placement, combined with my course, will bring me one
step closer to accomplishing my target.”]
Megan Gray, South Africa – internship at Copthorne
Tara Hotel
[“I am working in the human resources department
at the Copthorne Tara Hotel as an HR Co-ordinator. My colleagues
are a pleasure to work with. They involve me in everything they
do, from participating in courses to attending social evenings,
and they help me with my work if necessary. My boss is the HR Manager,
who is always asking me about my progress and if my expectations
are being met.
I work roughly 40 hours per week but unfortunately
I do not receive any kind of compensation. My responsibilities include
maintaining the HR systems and records, drafting reports and processing
holidays, sick days etc. in liaison with the payroll department.
My aim has always been to find an HR position in the
hospitality sector, but I have never had the opportunity to work
in an HR department before due to lack of experience. This is therefore
a very valuable experience for me. It has also given me the chance
to learn about other departments in the hotel at the same time,
as well as skills such as multi-tasking, prioritising and working
to strict deadlines.”]
Erman Akalin - Turkey, internship at Moon Travels
[“I would just like to tell you how my job is
going: I am very well, working hard, benefiting and happy. I am
trying to do everything they ask me to do (including ticketing using
Galileo and some others computerised reservation systems, making
reservations, arranging visas, as well as some banking and filing
work in the office) in order to benefit fully from working with
this company and of course to learn and to gain valuable experience
which will be very important for my future. I am not being paid
at the moment but hopefully I will be after couple of months; Everything
is OK so far. Mr. Jaggi (the manager) is a good person, so I like
him and accordingly what I am doing. Actually I would like to work
even harder and be able to learn everything as soon as possible”

Bianca De Martis, Italy - internship at Olympia Tours
[“What can I say about my work placement? Well...I'm
very happy. I'm learning a lot of things every day and the job is
really interesting. Tiziana the manager (who is doing the training)
is really nice and so are all the staff who work there. They are
all kind and very helpful. At the moment I'm taking bookings and
doing some office work such as database entry of rates, as well
as calling hotels to check prices and ask for information. As I
said I'm learning step by step and I'm happy!” ]

combined with a 6-month work placement providing real-world experience
of business and management issues. It is ideal for students who
are planning to study on a UK MBA programme and who need to enhance
their skills, level of work experience and academic qualifications
in preparation for this.” ]
Pankaj Tolani (India) – Internship at Marriott London Maida
Vale
["Well to start with a big Thank You to you for
organising a work placement for me at the "Marriott London
Maida Vale". I am doing very well and have got on with work
quiet nicely. I am working in the Conference, Banquets & Room
Service department as an Associate. The hotel's been busy and I
have been quiet busy with work. It’s a wonderful experience
to be working with a Hotel which is one of the best chain hotels
in the world. I have been working with a great team, excellent managers
and in a non-biased working atmosphere."]
Sarfaraj Ahmed – (Bangladesh) Internship at
50Lessons Ltd
50Lessons has a very good working environment. Everyone
is really nice, friendly and very helpful.
At the moment I’m doing some online reporting, (with ASP.NET
and Microsoft reporting tools). They have very experienced and specialised
IT staff located all over the UK; everyone is helping me to complete
my project and giving me lots of valuable advice especially with
SQL.
Right now I’m getting help from Microsoft side and Codeproject.com
and planning to finish my internship project soon.
